Dark Days of Winter Eat Local Challenge
what it’s all about:
- started by a (different) lovely Laura over at urbanhennery.com this challenge is all about eating local during the more challenging seasons of autumn and winter
- why eat local? well there are numerous reasons. See here for more info.
- why am I doing this? because my body thrives on good food. (i bet yours does too!) i like putting my money into the local economy, knowing where my food comes from, and enjoying the most delicious tasting produce there is. I like knowing that my kale never sat in crates being drown across country after being Fed-exed from Mexico just so I could pay $2.50 a bunch at whole foods.
want to get in on the fun? see the orignal post and join in at any time!
My rules…for now…from today until December 31, 2007.
- Eat as much local organic food as possible.
- Enjoy and relish every moment of the above.
- Eat one 95% local organic meal per day. Aim for three.
- Update how it’s going at least once a week.
- This shall remain a fun project and not a dogmatic rule. If I cannot eat local, I shall enjoy what I eat. It has got to be fun (and delicious)!!
I am a student and extremely busy, so I’m also doing this to show that there is no reason that college students can’t eat the best food EVER, easily and affordably.

i went to the original post, and i see you really set the bar high with one 95% local organic meal per day, huh! i think it sounds neat and i’ll be interested to read more about it. good luck and have fun!
Thanks Vanessa! Yes, I have set the bar high. perhaps I should mention the fact that I live very close to a market and at the moment it’s still abundant with fruits and veggies, so I can easily have a smoothie or salad for a meal that is totally local with the exception of a salad dressing or something like that. After Thanksgiving when things slow down I may have to re-evaluate the goals hehe
